Spatial mixing originated in film and cinematic sound design, where it remains standard for creating immersive environments. However, Aucourant Media is actively working to develop innovative spatial techniques for music and other audio-only formats, bringing the immersive language of film into the world of recorded sound.
Whether for streaming platforms, Blu-ray/DVD authoring, or even spatial enhancements embedded in CD stereo mixes (using binaural fold-downs), we’re exploring ways to deliver immersive audio to listeners across every medium.
At Aucourant Media, we can create spatial masters from either:
- User-supplied stereo pre-masters, which are enhanced using spatial reverberation, imaging, and positioning techniques to simulate immersion, or
- Stem mixes, which provide separate tracks (vocals, drums, keys, etc.) and allow for a more granular spatial placement of each element in the sound field.
When possible, we recommend that clients plan for spatial mastering during the mixing phase by exporting a comprehensive set of well-organized stems. This gives us the flexibility to spatialize the mix with maximum artistic control in our specialized spatial audio suite.
